How to store
and wear perfume correctly:
A full Guide

Perfume is not just a luxury item anymore; it is a way to show off your personality, mood, and style. Even though many people use perfumes, few know how to keep their good scent and quality, one needs to learn how to wear and store perfume correctly. Today, we’ll give detailed instructions on the must-know storage and usage tips to enjoy their perfumes for a longer period.

So, here they go.

Storage Tips

Various perfumes are on the tray in the bathroom

1. Keep your perfume in a cool and dark place.

Avoiding heat, light, and air will make the most important difference that can help your perfume retain its quality. These few aspects will degrade the ingredients to the point of even changing their smell.

Here are guides in detail.

  • Try avoiding it from direct sunlight; the cold and dark will also work perfectly fine in order for your perfume not to reach it directly. That could result in direct damage, making your perfumes either ruin their notes or wear themselves down easily.
  • Storage cabinets, drawers, and locations not right across from direct sunlight should help with perfume storage.
  • Temperature control: Perfume is very sensitive to temperature. Whenever one is storing perfume, I would advise storing it in a cool place where the temperature maintains constancy. Also, avoid placing perfumes near the window or heating appliances or in the car. A high temperature will cause the perfume to evaporate or make it change scent.
  • Keep off moisture: Perfume is the one that should not be placed in a humid place and in the bathroom. The water vapor, steam, and humidity found within the bathroom may easily tamper with the perfume texture.

2. Always close perfume bottles.

Whenever opening up a bottle of perfume, air rushes in which means that oxidation takes course changing the smell of a particular perfume.

  • Keep the bottle closed: The first thing to do when using a bottle of perfume is to make sure that your perfume bottles are always tightly closed. Your perfume will be fresh for a longer period since minimal contact with air is attained.
  • Reduce exposure: In case your perfume has a large bottle, like 100ml, it is good to put a little in another small bottle. That way, the air will not keep going into your big perfume bottle.

3. Keep perfume away from cosmetics and cleaning products.

Most of us place our perfume just beside other cosmetics, like lotion or makeup items. However, this is very wrong since these products can destroy the fragrance of your perfume. They tend to contain some chemicals that will always have an effect on your perfume. It is always good to keep your perfume in some secluded area so that it maintains the original fragrance.

  • Avoid mixing of fragrances: If perfumes are kept with other strong smell goods such as deodorant, body spray, and cleaning products, then the fragrance of perfume will be combined with other products and the perfume will change its actual smell.

4. Never shake a perfume bottle.

Shaking the bottle of perfume introduces air inside the bottle. The air will cause oxidation, which might change the smell and shorten the life of the perfume. Please handle perfume with care, avoid shaking.

Usage Tips

1. Wear perfume correctly.

How you wear perfume will determine how long it lasts and how it interacts with your body’s natural chemistry. Here are some tips for correctly applying perfume:

  • Spraying on pulse points is the best way to increase the longevity and projection of a scent. Examples of pulse points are the wrist, neck, behind your ears, and the inner elbows. These pulse points emit heat which helps to diffuse the scent.
  • Do not rub your wrists against each other after spraying perfume: The habit of rubbing your wrists together after perfuming is quite bad. When you rub your wrists together, fragrance molecules will be crushed. Then the smell will disappear more quickly. Just leave it to dry naturally instead of rubbing.
  • Spray from a distance: When using perfume, please keep the perfume about 10~15 cm away from your skin. That is also the way to apply perfume evenly. Keep in mind to never spray your perfume too close to the skin, which will then lead to a strong, overpowering smell and way too much on the skin.
  • Spray lightly on your clothes and hair: Spraying your perfume onto your clothes and hair really helps the scent last a lot longer than just being sprayed onto your skin. However, some perfumes might stain certain fabrics, just be careful. Do not over-spray on the hair either. The alcohol in perfume will make hair dry.
  • Apply it to moisturized skin: Apply Vaseline or any odorless lotion on the skin. The moisture retained in the skin allows more fragrance molecules to linger and stick around, prolonging the life of a fragrance. There is a small tip for you: you can always use a fragrance primer in place of Vaseline or any lotion. It doesn’t just keep your skin well moisturized but will aid in extending the scent’s longevity.

2. Use perfume in its lifespan.

Perfume usually has 3-5 years of lifespan. If your perfume gives off a bad smell, or changes its color, now is the time to change. Because an out-of-date perfume develops an unpleasant smell and could cause skin irritation. So don’t let perfume be unused for too long. Do use it more often.

Changing the small steps in taking care of perfume can keep perfume longer and fresher.
